Cuban Missile Crisis

The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most important events in American history. It shaped the way America developed in the 20th century, and set us up for many future events. The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred in 1953 when the Soviet Union sent missiles to Cuba in order to prep them for launch on the United States in case of an attack. The United States then found the missiles with a spy plane, and the crisis ensued, both superpowers ready to launch their missiles on each other at any minute. Eventually the crisis was settled, and the missiles were removed from Cuba. The specifics of this crisis are detailed in this website, including articles on each individual part of the crisis. This includes; the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, a United States sponsored attack on Havana in order to kill Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba; Operation Northwoods, an American planned operation to attack major US cities and blame it on Cuba and the Soviet Union in order to have a pretense to attack; the Cuban quarantine, a United States' treaty that blocked all ingoing shipments to Cuba; the situation in the White House during the crisis; and finally the resolution to the conflict when the Soviet Union finally retracted the missiles. The site is also host to several Op-eds on the entirety of the Crisis.
